FOR RECONCILIATION

About Us

Project Objectives:

 

The ENGAGE Project will develop a strong partnership strategy building on the people to people contacts and formal and informal networks with leading members of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities, who have demonstrated considerable success in strengthening Cypriot Civil Society in the past, and who are active advocates of the reconciliation process.
The indicators for the overall achievements of the project are as follows:
• Participation of CSO’s in the peace process through a number of consultations between CSO’s and decision makers
• Participation of CSO’s in island-wide consultation processes regarding the future of the island
• Improvement in the CSI Index regarding CSO influence on decision-making and policy-making
The ENGAGE Project will also draw on the expertise of international experts in the field of reconciliation and peace building projects.

 

Main Activities:

 

• Capacity assessment and building of networks including technical assistance and the provision of a Small Grants Scheme to be offered to CSOs.
• Public Awareness Campaign positioning CSOs in the peace process and Civil Society Fairs and Awards Ceremonies to acknowledge the contribution of CSOs in the field.
• The Civicus Civil Society Index will be undertaken providing a local as well as an international perspective on the role of CSOs in Cyprus.
 

Partners:

 

Two non-governmental organizations operating in Cyprus island-wide operate the project “ENGAGE DO YOUR PART FOR PEACE”. The two partners are The Management Centre and the NGO Support Centre.

Outcomes:

 

The overall Outcome for the Programme is as follows
To ensure the capacity of civil society is strengthened to provide a vehicle for citizens to play a role in the reconciliation process.
The Indicators which will determine the achievement of the Outcome are as follows:
• Participation of CSO’s in the peace process through a number of consultations between CSO’s and decision makers
• Participation of CSO’s in island-wide consultation processes regarding the future of the island
• Improvement in the CSI Index regarding CSO influence on decision-making and policy-making
As part of the agreed proposal with the funder UNDP, there will be a Monitoring and Evaluation process in place for the review of the programme. This falls within Output 4 of the Programme framework.
This Programme contributes towards UNDP-ACT’s objective/ output of: ‘Capacity Building of CSOs through training, technical assistance, coaching and issue-based workshops/ conferences’.
